CALL FOR EXTENDED ABSTRACTS

OVERVIEW

The International Research Training Group (IRTG) on Semantic Integration of Geospatial Information (University of Münster, University of Bremen, University at Buffalo) in collaboration with University of Zürich are organizing a Doctoral Colloquium in Geographic Information Science. The colloquium will be held in Zürich, Switzerland, on 18th September 2010 in conjunction with the GIScience 2010 conference.

The aim of the colloquium is to give young GI Science researchers the opportunity to present and get feedback on their research. It will also allow the participants to further develop their research network.

TOPICS

We encourage submissions related to the full spectrum of Geographic Information Science.  As an interdisciplinary colloquium we welcome researchers from all connected disciplines (e.g., Geography, Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics, Cognitive Science).

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION

The Doctoral Colloquium will provide an excellent opportunity for PhD students to present their research to an international and interdisciplinary audience and to interact  with and get feedback from invited senior researchers as well as fellow students. The accepted papers will be published in the ifgi Prints series (http://www.aka-verlag.com/).

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

Doctoral students in ALL stages of their dissertation process can apply for participation in the doctoral colloquium.

Students interested in participating in the Doctoral Colloquium should submit an extended abstract describing their work (not exceeding 1500 words including references). The extended abstract must be written in English according to the formatting guidelines specified here [WordTemplate] [LateXStylefile].

We recommend the following structure for your abstract :

  • Background and Motivation
  • Research Questions
  • Overview of related work in the area of the PhD work
  • Methodological approach
  • Research carried out
  • Research contribution to GI Science

The extended abstract should be in PDF format and submitted to http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=irtgdc2010. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Participants will be selected on the basis of blind reviews of the extended abstracts and will be invited to give a talk at the colloquium.
